Malissa Zimmerman to Run Boston Marathon for Girl Scouts

Malissa Zimmerman will run the Boston Marathon in support of Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts (GSEM). Malissa first became involved with Girl Scouts as a Brownie and continued into high school.

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts serves 40,000 girls grades K-12 and engages 17,000 adult volunteers in 178 communities across eastern Massachusetts with the mission to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.

Goose Island Migrates to District Commons

The award-winning Chicago based brewery, Goose Island, is making the move to DC’s District Commons. As a craft beer pioneer that opened in the Midwest over two decades ago, Goose Island has since expanded to all 50 states. The local Meridian Pint bar and restaurant played host to a tasting event called Migration Invasion that included a Belgian Style Farmhouse Ale. Known as Sofie, this craft brew is aged in wine barrels and earned a medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2011.

Homicide: Rear of the 2900 Block of 2nd Street, SE

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the rear of the 2900 block of 2nd Street, SE. On Saturday, September 7, at approximately 3:46 a.m., patrol officers from the Seventh District responded to the rear of the 2900 block of 2nd Street, SE for the report of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they located an unconscious adult male suffering from apparent multiple gunshot wounds.

Anacostia Community Museum Features Robert Garcia as the 46th Anniversary Benefit Luncheon Presenter

Robert Garcia, Esq., founding director and counsel for The City Project in Los Angeles, is the featured keynote speaker for “Deepening Understanding,” the 46th anniversary luncheon of the Smithsonian’s Anacostia Community Museum. The luncheon, a fundraiser for the museum, will take place Friday, Sept 13, at noon at the National Press Club Ballroom.

Ballpark Boathouse in Navy Yard Opens

Ballpark Boathouse, run by Boston Outdoor Recreation, Inc., the same company who runs the Key Bridge Boathouse, opened on July 19. The Ballpark Boathouse at the Diamond Teague Park at the corner of First St. SE and Potomac Ave. SE between Yards Park and Nats Stadium, is the first kayak rental operation on the Anacostia River. Hours of operation are Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. ballparkboathouse.com
