Red Line Closures Over Labor Day Weekend
Metro will close five Red Line stations during the Labor Day Holiday weekend from 10 p.m., Friday, Sept. 3, to closing on Monday, Sept. 6, as the agency undertakes a major rehabilitation and rebuilding project to improve safety, comply with a recommendation made by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and maintain service reliability and a state of good repair. The Takoma, Silver Spring, Forest Glen, Wheaton and Glenmont Metrorail stations will be closed during the Labor Day Holiday weekend. Normal service will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 5 a.m.
To help people get around the work zone, Metro will operate free shuttle buses between the Fort Totten and Glenmont Metrorail stations. Customers should build an extra 40 minutes into their travel plans if they need to pass through the work zone. This will be the largest maintenance shutdown in Metro’s 34-year history. Officials anticipate having more than 500 track maintenance employees and three contractors working during the Labor Day Holiday weekend.
During the Labor Day Holiday weekend, all Red Line trains will operate between the Shady Grove and Fort Totten Metrorail station. The Fort Totten Metrorail station on the Red Line will remain open. Metro will operate free shuttle bus service between the Fort Totten and Glenmont Metrorail stations. Riders are encouraged to check Metro's web site at www.metroopensdoors.com

HPRB Landmarks James C. Dent House at 156 Q St. SW Formerly home to the Southwest Community House Organization, a now defunct non-profit social organization that had served low-income neighborhoods in southwest, a historic black and white, detached brick house at 156 Q Street, SW is once again the James C. Dent House. The Historic Preservation Review Board gave its blessing of historical protection to the property and recommended to the National Park Service that the home be listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The home is located on Buzzard Point, the urbanized sector of the peninsula formed by the confluence of the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers. http://www.planning.dc.gov Staged Reading Of "The Agony Of David" by Anthony E. Gallo - click here to read his feature in this month's Literary Hill On Saturday, September 4, 2:00 PM, the Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts presents as part of the 2010 Stage-to-Page Festival a Seventh Street Playhouse Staged Reading Of The Agony Of David by Hill resident Anthony E. Gallo. (see Literary Hill for more on Gallo) This two-act tragedy of faith and sin is totally based on the life of David, second king of Israel, and pivotal to the two Davidic religions, Christianity and Judaism. David, once a shepherd boy and now the mighty King of Israel, rules the entire region after being crowned King of Israel in 1010 BCE. He has put together a kingdom against all odds. Even his enemies admit that he is God’s chosen. But this providentially endowed military and political genius, poet, spiritual, harpist, sportsman, and dancer is beset by tragedy. "The Agony of David" shows how ultimately David must face the tragic consequences of his decisions but in the end is sustained by a remarkable faith and strength of inner character. Remain for the lively discussion afterward. Free. 202-544-6973. agallo2368@verizon.net Help Save Virginia Avenue Park Hill residents are being asked to provide comments to the Marine's about their location choices for their new Barracks.
